Children & Family
The National Art Gallery has also placed a strong emphasis on children and families, with an aim to instil the sense of art appreciation from a young age. In this exhibition, the Gallery’s art educators have installed interactive stations, providing children and families an opportunity to engage with the topics discussed through the exhibition, but in a more light-hearted, fun and engaging manner.

Creative Play stations encourage children to see, touch, and manipulate a variety of things to stimulate their artistic imaginations.
Within the exhibition on level 3, we have built a number of thematic activity stations in the galleries that encourage participation, interaction and offer make-and-take craft activities.
My Family Portrait
Family portraits often reveal clues about the relationship between people and sometimes tell us about the social status of those painted. Draw your family portrait and hang it up on the tree in our gallery.
My Self Portrait
Artists often use mirrors to paint their own self portraits. After good quality glass mirrors became available in the 16th century, many artists started to paint themselves. This gave them a chance to examine their own appearance and try out new techniques. In the early days, self-portraits were a way for artists to show off their skills to people who might pay to have their own portraits done, like an early form of advertising.
Try making your own fun self portrait at this activity station.
